Flavor and Cutters Studios has announced promotions for several longtime team members.

According to the executive producer of Flavor Neal Cohen, Brian McCauley becomes Executive Creative Director, Brad Backofen and Colby Capes move up to associate creative director, and Mack Neaton becomes Senior Artistic Director, effective immediately.

McCauley has been a Flavor All Star since his first freelance assignment in 2012. Proving the viability of working remotely as a hands-on creative director by consistently delivering extraordinary work and leadership for top brands and global creative leaders, his credits include many top-ranked spots for the Super Bowl and a growing list of keynotes from the creative industry.

Speaking first to McCauley’s promotion, Cohen explained, “Not only is Brian a talented designer and animator, but his skills as a client-centric creative director are extraordinary. Arrived at Flavor just ahead of McCauley in 2011, Backoffen championed the studio’s distinct creative vision and worked tirelessly to help expand its roster of talent. A major player in creating Flavor’s stunning designs for campaigns for Nike, McDonald’s, Nissan, State Farm, Dairy Queen, Intel, KitchenAid, Jeep, Maytag and Vera Bradley, to name a few, he is also very proud to represent Saveur at prestigious design conferences around the world.

Like McCauley and Backofen, Cloaks is also a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Art with a track record dating back to 2011. During that time, his distinct touch has been applied to countless Cutters Studios projects. A key contributor to high-profile campaigns for AICP, Coca-Cola, Getty Images, Goose Island, McDonald’s, S’well and TEDMED, his accolades also include designing key artwork for feature films and books. digital and analog art outside the world of advertising.

Neaton joined Flavor immediately after graduating from Columbia College Chicago. Her accolades include being acclaimed as the Design Grand Prize winner for AICE’s Camp Kuleshov Chicago Awards in 2014 and 2016, as Art Director and Featured Artist of The Groundbreaking 2019 “Glowing Glowing Gone” Campaign by The Ocean Agency for Adobe and Pantone, and as a freelance artist director. Carlile’s “Spare Me” music video, which screened at prestigious festivals across America. With extensive commercial credits on campaigns like Nike, McDonald’s and Vera Bradley, Neaton’s unique talents and brilliant perspective remain essential ingredients in Flavor’s arsenal.
